Established in 2006, Imagination Ashe is a free book gifting program for preschool children in Ashe County, North Carolina. Any Ashe County child from birth to five years old is eligible for inclusion, and once enrolled, will receive one age-appropriate book each month at no cost. Imagination Ashe is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that seeks to increase literacy in Ashe County and to promote lifelong learning and reading enjoyment.

We are a fully accredited affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which was founded in 1995 by Dolly Parton to mail free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, regardless of their family’s income. However, no funding for Imagination Ashe comes from the Dolly Parton Foundation or other large corporate donors, so we rely on grants and donations from local individuals, organizations, and businesses to provide this service to our community’s preschoolers.
